The World Has Turned Blue: Part 1
“Again and again and again! You’re acting up again!”
June’s head hangs down.
The book flew by her, hitting the wall.
She quickly looked up.
“Kneel.”
June slowly went down to her knees.
Her mom walks over to the closet and pulls out a long stick-like rod.
She stood over her.
“You will learn your place today.”
The first strike burns her back.
One after another, the pain continues.
A tear falls, her fist clenched.
June opens her eyes.
Light brightens the room.
Her phone buzzes.
“Hello. Yes. Okay. I’ll be there soon.”
A breath of air.
Typing.
June pushes her glasses back.
A hard brake.
Shaken.
“What happened?”
“Someone fell in front of the car, ma’am.”
June breathes out.
Aerin pats the kitten.
“Are you okay?”
Stroking the cat.
The car door opens, then slams shut.
“Are you okay?”
Aerin looks up at the person.
Their eyes met.
“June…”
“Aerin…”
